The Drawing Lab is an interactive installation that brings drawing and creativity to everyone, young and old, people who like to draw and people who may not have done any drawing since they were 5. The main goal of the Drawing Lab is to offer a space that allows individuals to unlock an essential core human aspect of themselves: the language of drawing. Through unique drawing experiences visitors can choose how they want to interact with the space. they can sit in the listening chair and draw with their eyes closed to classical music or feel inside a “Touch Box” and draw what they are feeling. Activating different parts of the brain is not only a meditative and calming experience it has also been show to build memory, build different parts of the brain and to allow for “non focus” which brain researchers are now discovering is essential when individuals are in deep focus. That we as humans need to incorporate time for both intense focus but also non focus activities like meditation or creative pursuits. The Drawing Lab addresses all of these.  The Drawing Lab is an interactive installation that is also site specific and is created around the space and venue it will be shown. There are a set of drawing stations in the installation as well as all the drawing materials and a way to share the drawings either in sketchbooks or on a community drawing wall. There are also clear instructions at every station so that visitors can engage with each drawing experience on their own. No instructor is needed. It is all self guided.
