Deborah Putnoi is a visual artist, educator and researcher. Putnoi has an M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a 5th Year Graduate Degree from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and a B.A./B.F.A. from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (joint degree program). She has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions nationally to critical acclaim and her work is included in many significant collections. She has taught in a range of settings including elementary and secondary schools, universities, and community outreach organizations. Putnoi also worked for many years as a researcher with Howard Gardner at Project Zero at Harvard Graduate School of Education working on research projects focusing on community art centers, museums and school learning. Putnoi is the author of The Drawing Mind. She also installs her Drawing Lab installations at schools, museums, non profits, science laboratories, temples, libraries and other spaces.

Learn to let go of pre-conceived notions about what art is, what “Good” art is, how one “should” make art and enter a studio space that exposes each and every person to a new way of thinking about the creative process and the power and potential of art. Art For A Change Studio is a space where kids, teens and adults can explore a variety of media in an open-ended process oriented approach where experimentation is encouraged and mistakes can lead to new and powerful discoveries.
Learn to connect with your creativity and one of a kind visual voice in Putnoi's innovative courses and workshops. Available online as well in person in Brighton, Massachusetts, Putnoi's courses are accessible to people of all ages and abilities, regardless of prior artistic experience. Classes are available both for larger groups, corporations, colleges and universities, non-profits, and for individuals 1-on-1.
Putnoi has been making these pieces of art for over 3 decades. She combines her love of collage, history, narrative and personal connection. She has created these pieces for individuals, families, museums, organizations, and non-profits. Some of the totems are free standing and have interactive elements: a way to donate money, an educational structure with drawing activities and more. She has created these commissions for special occasions, graduations, awards and other celebrations.
Bring the Drawing Lab to your venue! An interactive installation created by artist Deborah Putnoi. the Drawing Lab is a participatory space to engage people with the drawing process. Drawing stations provide new and unexpected ways to engage the "drawing mind," such as experimentation with mark making, drawing to music, training the eye to observe the world, and awakening all of the senses through drawing. The Drawing Lab is a dynamic work in process, responding to each venue and to the specific needs of the communities it serves.
